I really didn't think it would be that easy. I shifted off the visualisation I was developing without success, and staying with the same meaning switched to totally different imagery. Suddenly, I have four lines I can live with...for now:
There's a stain in the water
An it's spreading with the tide
Giving off vaporous fumes
The tainted waves subside
Sweeeeet.
