The good news is I am now getting a handle on things. I've started learning German. I'm using the German keyboard layout, and I've only had to correct about a zillion Y/Z* typos today. I've had very little spare time in the past few days and it's all been put into studying German or marking my keyboard so it looks German (my stickers haven't come yet), so no LILTage.

After consulting with Alea and mulling over the idea of 'pulling a wicked face for a wicked occasion'* I've changed the 'good face' line to a 'Ramm-face' line. The good face idea didn't seem to quite fit, and the alternative interpretation, which is to 'not grin and bear it' just didn't play for me at all.

* In proper English wicked means 'evil' or 'bad', but colloquial usage has it meaning 'great', 'fantastic', or 'wonderful'. The phrase 'pull a wicked face for a wicked occasion' uses both proper and slang meanings, respectively. Unfortunately it didn't fit the line, rhythmically, so Ramm-face was born.

Faster Louder have posted an article citing Olli as saying that they'd love to do BDO again in 2010. I'm not sure how good those chances are, but damn, that'd be nice.

For those of you not in Australasia, BDO is The Big Day Out. It's a summer Festival that tours Australia and comes to New Zealand for one stop, and it's really the only chance I'll probably ever have to see Rammstein live. Unfortunately, just at the moment this isn't seeming a likely scenario, but it's good that it's even been suggested by Rammstein.

New Tubes

The official Rammstein YouTube channel has two new videos that appear to have been filmed in the US (named Sonoma). They're not as dark and moody as the Beesenstedt clips, but they're just as arty-farty.

I wrote an email to my mother about LIFAD today, but didn't send it. I've decided to just play the album to her when it comes out, and let her settle her own ideas based on the music. I did that with their earlier work, and she liked some of it a lot, despite understanding German, but I don't want to colour her perceptions of what's to come.

I thought I'd post it here though, as it's Rammstein, and it's me, and that's what this site is about, to a large degree:

Rammstein are releasing their sixth album in October. As usual they're approaching the world from below, giving us a fairly good view of its underbelly. Sex tourism, Fritzl, sex, Rammstein, sex, S&M, sex, etc. are amongst the subjects tackled. There should be plenty of shits and giggles, as ever.

The first single is here, with a pornographic video featuring all six band members with their heads composited onto porn actors' bodies banging a range of hot women silly, accompanied with images of a leather-clad musical performance, German flags, and a cat. The single is called 'Pussy', and it really, really nails down the subject matter...amongst other things.

Pussy is probably the track purported to be about sex tourism, since it mentions such things as driving abroad because 'I can't get laid in Germany', and German clichés like bratwurst and sauerkraut. It's crass, crude, explicit, and executed with tongue firmly planted in cheek, and it's catchy in a very poppy fashion. Definitely a primary source of the previously promised 'giggles'.

The B-side is a Rammstein anthem, in the same style as (funnily enough) 'Rammstein', and will be the album opener. Apparently 'epic' is the best description for it. It's called (obscurely) Rammlied.

Other tracks have explicit (and implicit) themes varying from Sharks (sex), through spring in Paris (possibly sex but probably love), and Fritzl (bad sex), the traditional huntsman's greeting (sex), and inflicting pain (during sex, I suspect), to B********, which is a word fabricated by the band to mean anything they like (probably sex). This is par for the course, but from the previews I've read it appears that this album is not more of the same, musically speaking. It sounds like they continue to evolve, despite Lindemann's propensity for sexual verbage.

The album is going to be called 'liebe ist für alle da' (LIFAD for short...and possibly for the Teutonically challenged), and has begun its life surrounded by controversy. This is appropriate. This is Rammstein!

The first shit-fight was over a leaked track (the title track), which trickled, then streamed, and then gushed through the fan scene while we were in Greece. Lots of drama, lots of legal action, and a PR nightmare later unreleased images then came to light and a fan community got hammered with yet more legal action. Soon after the promotional clips for the Pussy single came out, and broke the more fragile-minded amongst us. Then the actual single and video followed this week, and the faecal matter really became ballistic. This is the aforementioned 'shits'.

It's funny how people can handle violence of the 'Terminator' and 'Aliens' variety without turning a hair, but show them some good, healthy, rubbing of the uglies and they blush like nuns and make outraged noises.

I don't think anything else on the album is going to cause anything like the upsets we've already had though, so it's probably going to be fairly gentle from here on in, but anticipation is high, and I'm really looking forward to the album.

If you're wondering about the title of this post I refer to my mother by her name, rather than a maternal epithet, but don't choose to tell you what that is.

New Album Preview

Rock Social have posted a new preview, and it's probably the most considered one I've read yet. This could well mean it's the most honest. I'm not sure, but I find it very encouraging.

What Pussy Does For Me

I was thinking the video might be on-topic (sex tourism), but it just seemed to be a big poke in the ribs, a woopie cushion on the chair, and a squirty rubber buttonhole as the kicker. Don't get me wrong. I don't feel strongly about them, but I did like both the video and the song. I do have to append 'not as much as I'd hoped I would' though, because I guess I set the bar too high for this particular track. I feel much less than I think I should, given that this is the first Rammstein track out in a long time. I figured there'd be something sparking in me. I expected the song to inspire passion of some kind, if not the video, but I feel a mild amusement, and a quiet enjoyment. Where are the fireworks?

I smiled throughout though. It's very tongue-in-cheek, very wry, and rather cheesy, and they've pretty much now laid the smack down on those lame hip-hop/R'n'B videos, with all the hot chicks rubbing bare bits against fully clothed men, implying a lot, but not delivering. How d'you like them apples, bitches?

I'm just glad that every sign points to this track being unique on this album, because I really don't want my feelings about LIFAD to be tepid, flaccid, or gentle. I want it to burn me up.

There's a very short mini-interview with Schneider on the SFR Myspace page (currently first track in their player). He talks about looking forward to the larger venues on the UK leg of the tour, Till's pyro-dependence, and the work-in-progress that is their show design. It seems they don't have the 'gimmick' down yet. In the past this has been Till's dildo performance with Flake and Till Cooking Flake. No doubt they'll find a new way to try and beat Flake down, and fail.

Pussy Galore

TheGauntlet has got the Pussy promo' video up, and to their laughing dismay it's owned their servers. A new, dedicated box has had to be rolled out to cope with demand. These guys are devoted to the cause. They're paying for the extra hardware/traffic and watching as load goes up. I'd be seriously worried if I were them. What happens if the new server ends up DoSed by the Pussy-seekers?

Oh, and as if that wasn't enough they've confirmed some dates for us. Love you TG.

Pussy: It's About RELEASE

It had to be done. That's my last bad pun...but one. Rammstein's announcement of the single's imminent release (18 September) has caused thousands of straight women the world over to want nothing so much as Pussy.

Okay, now I'm done. Pussy comes *coughsorrycough* with a video and Rammlied as the B-side. Since I'm looking forward to Rammlied as much as I am Pussy this is what I consider excellent news. The new album's October release is also confirmed on the official site.

As an aside, I'm still seriously broken. My back is in fairly bad shape and I'm on some seriously woo-woo drugs for it, so I'm not being productive at the moment.
