This one eludes me a bit. I like what I've got, but it lacks elegance in the effort to 'hold to' the original German:

Duck Book

The book has been printed, and babyduck is in touch with Pilgrim Management in regards to delivery. She will be attending the February 3 show in Birmingham, so I'm guessing it will take place there.

One might say 'lucky ducky' for getting to go and represent us in England, but luck has nothing to do with it. This book has been a huge undertaking, and has put babyduck to some trouble and expense, so she deserves gratitude from the fan-base who have had this opportunity to send their love to Rammstein. LILT is in the book and the project is in keeping with my stance on fans as a united body, so she gets my warmest best wishes. Go babyduck!

Oomph! Go English

Oomph! have posted a note on their Facebook page announcing a new Best of album, which will be in English:

To all our fans around the world, we wish you a happy and healthy year 2010!

You can imagine that we´ve certainly not been deedless for the last couple of months, playing pocket pool on the Maldives... Instead we´ve re-recorded 16 killer songs in English for more international success.

Our singing partners were kind enough to visit us once again in our studio and record the vocals in english. Furthermore, we could enlist Sharon den Adel from "Within Temptation" for the english version of „Land in Sicht" ("Land Ahead").

We're looking forward to present you with these 16 songs at the end of February, as the intense work with a befriended native speaker really was worth it. On the one hand, we wanted to stick to the original themes of the songs, without any compromisses regarding pronounciation and metrics; on the other hand, the english version should sound homogen and natural. And we think we managed this balancing act pretty well.

We naturally hope that our foreign fanbase will increase after that release and we expect to be able to perform even more often abroad.

Beyond that we have already thousands of new ideas for our eleventh studio album that we hope to be able to release by the end of this year. The album will naturally be followed by a headliner tour across Germany and Europe.

Until then we will perform on various festivals all over Europe in summer, and this week we're shooting the video of our version of „Ernten Was Wir Säen", a successful hit of "Die Fantastischen Vier".

We´re looking forward to rock 2010 with you!!!

Interviews Galore

I'm laid out with a bad back again, so I've been lying here with my notebook idly browsing the intardweb. I have managed to find a butt-load of old Rammstein interviews that I have never seen. Now, I'm sure you guys have seen most, if not all of these, but I don't really care. What if you haven't and I don't share? You could be deprived for life. That would be terrible.

Note that I've never really sought out this sort of thing and the copiousness of the Rammstein interviews I have found has been kind of insane, so I'm linking to a small selection from some old and very varied material here:

Paul, Till, and Schneider in the single most delightful interview I have ever seen (thanks in large part to a charming interviewer). This was posted by YouTube user bubblecrabremix September 2008, but I have no clue as to the vintage of the interview itself. Dortmund Rethink?

Tempelhüter has found an update on the Dortmund issue. It would appear the idea of all tracks from LIFAD being banned is no longer on the table. I suspect that the performance of ITDW with altered lyrics or with no vocals scares the sphincters-in-spasm of the authorities, because (horror of horrors) the fans might sing the indexed lyrics. Honestly, I hope they do, but it would appear that the idea is that if any version of ITDW is performed there will be a clamp-down. I have no idea what the band will do, but it would seem concerns that the Dortmund shows will be cancelled if the entire LIFAD tracklist is banned are now unfounded.

Affenknecht Logo WIN

I've had something of a success today, with my design having been selected as the new Affenknecht logo. Affenknecht (formerly Rammstein-EU) had to rebrand after having a run-in with Rammstein over intellectual property, which was all rather unfortunate, but the upshot is that the site is now all-original, alive and well, and still a premium, multilingual source of all things Rammstein.

Russian Pussy Cover Coming

Eiskaltherz has very kindly come to my rescue after my Russian translation SOS, and as I suspected the article is about an upcoming cover of Pussy, adapted and produced in collaboration with Rammstein:

Rammstein make a song for "Радистка К@т"
[ that's the singer's name, could be translated as "radio operator Kat", i think. ]

Kat (K@t) has started working on her first album. One of the tracks will be a translated and adjusted version of a scandalous Rammstein hit "Pussy". Some of the Rammstein members helped with the song: Oliver Riedel and Christoph Schneider had already written the rhythm-section channels (tracks?) for that cover specifically. K@t will be singing in duet with the "master of extreme russian grotesque", Kirill Nemolyaev and very soon everyone (in Russia) will know what that song is about!"

Katowice Interview

Schneider did an interview in Poland, with RebelTV. It's in two parts:

Schneider discusses the past, but only briefly. As he points out, it's hard to remember. The interview doesn't linger too long on any one thing, so they manage to cover a lot of ground. Both the questions and responses are entirely in English.

France Doomed

Schneider has given an interview to a French magazine called MusiqueMag.Com. It's well worth checking out, and Schneider speaks English throughout. One real point of interest for me is the revelations that Till originally wrote Pussy entirely in English, and it was a piss-take of US Gansta Rap (hence the 'Dickah', methinks).

I'd really like to read the original lyrics. I'm not a huge fan of Lindemann's foreign language lyrics, as I think his sharp edge is all German, but it would be interesting, especially since it sounds like he fought to keep the English and lost. If he defended the original text I want to read it.

Devin Townsend Talks to The Gauntlet

TG has had a chat with Townsend, whose Rammlied remix is to be included on the new ITDW single. Tubas, banjos, and fart sounds are mentioned. That said the really telling part for me was this:

I remember when I sent it back to them, I was thinking they were either going to like it or just hate me forever. They ended up really liking it, really liking it. I think by them releasing it it just reaffirms that they are just a bunch of decent guys with a good sense of humor. It was a real honor.

Schneider Confirms US Tour

Consequence of Sound has posted a report on the NAMM (National Association of Music Merchants) show, and there's a nice titbit from Schneider included:

...and the Rammstein drummer, Cristoph Schneider, who also confirmed a major fall US tour for the group, hoping that they have enough fans in the United States to fill the venues, proudly walked the floor.

Whisper & Shout

There's another item out that obsessive Rammstein collectors will need to get their hands on. The 1989 Whisper & Shout documentary seems to have been released on DVD...tomorrow?*:

Documents important parts of the East German rock music scene of the late 1980s, from well-established bands like Silly, to underground rock bands like Feeling B. This road movie features young people using music to express their take on life, opposition to their parents' generation and opinions on the social and political climate in East Germany. It includes clips from concerts and interviews with fans and members of various bands, such as Feeling B's Christian Lorenz and Paul Landers, now members of Rammstein. This documentary played to over one million viewers in sold-out theaters in East Germany. Audiences were drawn not only to see their favorite bands on the screen; they were also surprised that this film made it past the censors.

Ich Tu' Dir Weh Single Cover

TG has confirmed that the image going around fan sites at present is indeed the new single's cover art. Two fish hooks forming a heart feature on a white field, with the Rammstein typeface and that for LIFAD. It is simple, clean, and the lettering is very oddly laid out.

In fact, the lettering is exactly like the original LIFAD heart logo, only more compressed within the hook-heart.

I like it a lot. The image's simplicity and cleanliness belies the gritty darkness of the song perfectly, and will be eye-catching on the shelf...outside of Germany.

Moral Rammdomness

If you're a sensible LILT reader you will by now have started following TheGauntlet.Com. If you don't you should. I by no means mirror all of TG's posts, and content goes up there that never reaches LILT, and vice versa. While we are friendly, we are very much independent sites.

Yesterday TG posted an article about the added morality police woes the band faces in regard to its Dortmund shows next month.

Will Rammstein be forbidden from playing instrumental or lyrically altered versions of Ich Tu' Dir Weh? Will fans be unable to enjoy this stunning number and the original lyrics by singing them for themselves? Till can't sing the original ITDW lyrics in Germany, but I really hope the instrumental or at doctored version can be played, because it is a beautiful song.

By the way, I am working on my review of the bonus disk again. I'll let you know when it goes up.

Update 2150hrs: The lovely Ventrue has filled some gaps on this one:

this is a video of 2007. Richard's daughter is into the hip hop thing. A friend asked him to cooperate with Rakim and he agreed because he always thought of that weird and impossible to happen. The video was never released because Richard didn't want to, but the song is in Rakim's 2007 album. Richard helped with the guitar sound and in dirty scenes of the video.

I've been so slack. When I was linked to the Combichrist blog recently I said to myself that I must find out if they have a Twitter account, and then proceeded to do no such thing. As it happens they do, and it's called demonstoday. These guys are much more verbose than Rammstein, so if you want a good insight into the workings of a Rammstein tour, or even more insight into Combichrist themselves (heaven forbid), then follow them and read their blog.

The LIFAD site has been updated again, ahead of the tour's resumption. It appears that a French charity kitchen has taken up the banner, which is very cool.

As a side-note, LILT is either going to go into a flurry of mad activity this week, or go completely dead. Either way stick with me. It's just a phase.
