This has grown on me. I actually like it now.
I've mixed it up a bit with the last thing in this version though. I've made the first few choruses 'last thing I'll ever be', rather than 'last thing I'd ever be'. The reason for this is it maintains a certain degree of ambiguity about the usage of last until the end...not that any Rammstein fan finds the song remotely ambiguous where the desires of the character are concerned. I'm just pretending this is a crunchy new song, despite it being more than a decade old, and thoroughly thrashed, as well as recorded in English previously.

The Last Thing
For those of you for whom English is not your first language I'm adding this note about Till's line in the chorus, because it might seem a bit odd to you if you're not familiar with this usage of 'last'. In speaking English, when you say something is the last thing you'd say, do, allow, try, etc. you're indicating that you're trying to avert it, don't want it, and will do anything to avoid it. It's an expression of aversion and avoidance. The line I've replaced Till's 'Gott weiß ich will kein Engel sein' with implies that he'll never be an angel if he can possibly avoid it.
Of course it's also a bit of a play on words, since it can also mean that the thing he ends up being in the end is an angel. Contradictory, but also amusing in a slightly dark way, given that he doesn't want to be one.

Engel is an oldie but a goodie. It's hard to nail it down in English. This is the first draft, and right now I can't see any way to improve it. I'm not sure if my version is worse than or better than the English version Rammstein recorded though:
