I have a plan, it's grand my dear
I'm building you a house
Every stone shall be a tear
And you will never get out
Yeah, I'll build this house of yours
Without windows and without doors
In it will be dark withal
No light will get in there at all
Yeah I'll make a home for you
You'll be a part of it too
Stone by stone I wall you in
Stone by stone
I'm always there with you within
With no clothes and no shoes
You watch me get to work for you
With your feet sunk in cement
You're a basement ornament
Outside a garden with a stream
And no-one hears you scream
Stone by stone I wall you in
Stone by stone
I'm always there with you within
Such hammering, it's appalling
And outside the night is falling
All of my nails are standing
Into your trunk my hammer's Ramming...
Stone!
Stone by stone I wall you in
Stone by stone
And no-one hears you scream

I haven't seen the video, but the emotion and atmosphere set by this song, as well as some of the lyrics, would fit with such subject matter. I have to admit I don't particularly enjoy the way people associate Rammstein with Nazi Germany, as though any of them were alive when it existed. It feels like a kind of accusation against modern Germany, that is entirely over-the-top.
ReplyDeleteThis is an excellent song, about terribly dark subject matter, but I don't think it's about the holocaust, personally.
