It's All Greek to Me

Rammstein play Athens this month. I'm cursing a bit, because I was in Greece this time last year. I'm Greek by marriage (Greeks will know what I mean by that), and we go over semi-regularly, but this year is an off-year, damnit!

Richard has given an interview to a Greek, which Rammstein.com.uy has in turn found and posted. I have proceeded to steal it from them:

Don't ask me what the Greek means. I don't speak Greek, yet. I would see if my father-in-law could translate, but he's in Greece. Enjoy!

Greek Show Confirmed

The show in Athens has been confirmed on the band's site.

Nice! No word on whether this is a proper tour date, amongst the festivals, or if it is another festival. I'm guessing the Athenians will be able to tell us...

Greek Whispers

There are apparently rumours of a show in Athens late June, but there's no sign on the Rammstein tour page, so I am holding off being excited. It would be cool though. I'm Greek by marriage. Those of you who know how the typical Greek family works will understand what I mean by that.

Thanks to Evan Von Himmel for the whisper, which was in fact a rooftop scream.

Off to Europe

Well, I'm off first thing tomorrow. I'll update at my dedicated blog for this trip with what we're doing, but will hopefully be updating this site and my lyrics site too, while I'm away. I'll certainly be writing.

LILT: Sonne 1.0

This one is problematic. There's a need, when retaining the basic meaning, to elongate some words (such as 'sun' in the chorus) to maintain the meter of the song. Some of the other rhythms are a bit shoddy too:

One, two, three, four, five, six, seven, eight, nine, out

All are waiting for the light
Some fearless or cowed in fright
My eyes're aglow with the sun
Which tonight will not succumb
Even when the count's begun

One
Here comes the sun
Two
Here comes the sun
Three
It is the brightest star bar none
Four
Here comes the sun

The sun is shining from my hands
It can burn you where you stand
Sunlight flares from my fists
It burns your face like a kiss
And tonight it won't succumb
Even when the count's begun

One
Here comes the sun
Two
Here comes the sun
Three
It is the brightest star bar none
Four
Here comes the sun
Five
Here comes the sun
Six
Here comes the sun
Seven
It is the brightest star bar none
Eight, nine
Here comes the sun

The sun is shining from my hands
It will burn you where you stand
Sunlight flares from my fists
It burns your face like a kiss
It burns right through your chest
Then you're reeling, no contest
You're down, gaze up at the sun
And then the count's begun

One
Here comes the sun
Two
Here comes the sun
Three
It is the brightest star bar none
Four
And it will never be undone
Five
Here comes the sun
Six
Here comes the sun
Seven
It is the brightest star bar none
Eight, nine
Here comes the sun

Never mind. I'll keep working on it!

I've changed the image in the title bar of the site from my personal logo to a photo of Till. It just seems more fitting, both as a tribute to the man and as decoration for the site.

I think my logo is prettier than Till, but isn't nearly as interesting.

I've been thinking about solar imagery and boxing. The boxing aside the sun is something of an obsession just now. It's early winter here, and I miss evening sunshine. I like darkness, but need lots of light as well. I don't get enough during winter.

In just over six weeks I'll be in Kyparissi, in the Peloponnese in Greece, blinding the family and the rest of the village with my winter-tan, and indulging myself. I'll be reading, writing, listening to music, eating, sleeping and swimming for a month, including my birthday, and the anticipation is intense. I haven't been to Europe since 2005, and I really need a break. The village is like a sanctuary for peaceful rumination.

I will be working on this site's content, but how often I'll be able to post it is another matter. I'll be begging, borrowing, and stealing connectivity whenever I can, but won't have my own access, so I guess LILT will go a bit quiet for a while. If you're following this site you'll be sent emails when I do manage to update. If not then you can probably check it once a week.

Like a boxing fan I'm counting down...
